Weather strip / foam to cushion the cabinet glass on M100C?

Hi all,

For probably quite a simple question, I could not find it asked before on here, or the other forums (via google).

My tech came yesterday to take the amp away for repair on my (first) M100C. He pointed out that I should have a weather strip / foam to the places I have marked by two red arrows (so 2 x sides and one on the rear) - seems there was something there originally (I could however see no mention in the parts manual),



so I though I would just use this

First question...that ok?

Second question, I assume there is no need to put any on the front metal strip here: (or on the glass top where it touches this area - if you see what I mean)

The original stuff used (very similar to the MD weatherstripping) on the first photo to cover that spring steel and screws was 1/16 in thick, and like I said, applied to the whole length/width of the spring steel--2n/3rd photo's I can not locate in my mind. Ron Rich

The 2nd photo is the front - here it is from a different angle...I'm assuming this does not require the weather strip?

I don't do "cabinet work" ( I am "not allowed the use of any wood-working tool !), and if I am seeing correctly, I do not recall ever seeing foam there--I do seem to recall that the underside of the glass frame was foamed, at the pint of contact to the cabinet-- Ron Rich

My M100C still has some of the weather stripping on it although it seems to be degrading, dry, and falls into pieces if touched so I will likely replace it, but it runs along the top back of the cabinet and on the side of the metal portion of the cover that opens and closes. It is not attached to any portion of the wood.

For may location machines I have always removed any stripping to improve ventilation. The downside was that ambient dirt such as cigarette smoke would get inside more readily. Now with indoor smoking banned in NYC that is not a problem.

Running a model C (and many others) without stripping will cause glass sides to "rattle" against the metal, or sometimes to vibrate, on their own. Also, on some models, you run the risk of having metal touching part of the glass, and cracking it --Ron Rich

I agree with Ron, where metal touches places like side glass, if there is no foam the side glass can not only crack but chip when the dome is closed hard without the foam in place. I have two Seeburg "100Bs" that suffer from this exact problem.

As a point of interest I have purchased the replica foam one of the well known vendors sells. I am not happy with the poor adhesive quality of that product. I hope your weather stripping works better.

In that case it's best to "paint" a stripe of "Contact Cement" on the surfaces before applying weak stripping.

Quick update to say I am very happy with the weather strip I purchased. It went on easily, I think it looks neat, and appears, at least so far, to adhere well.
