Thanks guys, now I know why the motor just hummed,it has to have a startup cap, wondering if I can just parallel 2 diff values together as a 65 mfd is hard to find locally and is there a diff between startup and regular elec caps?

It actually is NOT a "start-up cap"--it is a "motor run cap", and is probably a non-pol. Yes, you should be able to connect two polarized caps ( + to +, or - to - makes no difference) together to make one "in range". "Working Voltage" (WV) is a factor, and at this moment, my mind is fuzzy on this--I THINK that the WV must be equal on both caps, and that it must exceed the original, by 2 times ??
Someone correct me if I am wrong--please--

Thanks Ron, I was hoping that I could use a non polorized cap as the cap(I found it 65-93 mfd) is not marked + or -

Picked up a 72-86 cap today but afraid to install till I find for sure that it don't matter and hoping someone can chime in on the non-polarized post that Ron suggested. Cheap enough but worried about frying something else.

IMHO, as long as no resister has "changed value"(didja check?), and the voltage of the new cap is the same, or higher, there should be no problems. Ron Rich

It needs some repairs but has was restored by Victory about 20 yrs ago.Looks mint. Ed

Great !! Glad it's working !!
If anyone wants to compete with me--just do it--I don't care, as I have more then enough to do, and I'm not going to be around long enough to ever "finish", all of my projects ! Ron Rich
