Seeburg M100A - Cleaning the pin bank & other items

by James_Douglas » Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:44 pm

Since Ron does not work on the M100A's :-)

I am pulling the jukebox apart and sending the mechanism to John Jablonski here in San Francisco to clean and set it up.

John suggested that I clean the pin bank and switches. He also warned me about a lot of little springs in the pin bank to watch out for.

Has any novice cleaned one of these pin banks? Is cleaning these parts covered in Ron's book on the later M100's?

Also, when I talked with Gib at West Tech on the cartridge issue, he sent me to Gary at 614-297-0150 in Ohio. Gary was a wealth of info. One thing he suggested was to put in a 47K resistor if I was using the Thorpe Cartridge. I guess the ceramic ones output more than the magnetic. I am putting in a (A-off-B) toggle switch in the amp with a 10K resistor on one side and a 47K resistor on the other so it can be switched quick if the cartridge is changed.

Gary also talked about mounting a 4 or 5 inch speaker inside and ahead of the original speaker. He seemed to think it would fit and clear. He then told me rapidly what electrical changes to make to add it in. He stated that this would raise the frequency response up quite a bit. Has anyone every done this on a M100A or M100B?

Best, James

Hi James,

I am a jukebox novice (still lots to learn). I am currently restoring a Seeburg C.

I cleaned the pinbank on my M100C without too much trouble. However, I'm not sure if the pinbank is the same on a both the model A and model C.

It's not an easy job, but set up in a quiet space and take your time. Yes, the springs are a worry and it takes some time to dismantle, clean and reassemble the pinbank. Look very carefully when you remove parts so they are replaced exactly the same way. My juke now selects properly.

I purchased the book called 'Restoring the Seeburg C'. It provides good instructions on the basic cleaning and repair procedures, including the pinbank. Also, the workshop manual is well worth the money. I have used both these extensively during this restoration. Ron's book also provides a lot of useful information.

If you are concerned about tackling this job, you may consider having the pinbank cleaned by a professional. I have found some advertisers that do this work at a reasonable price.

Good luck

Gordo....
