Seeburg AY160 Clutch Adjustment.

I am adjusting the clutch 2 on my AY 160 and I follow the manual but when I come to the point where it says turn adjustment screw in until there is no in and out play between detent arm roller and peak of sprocket tooth. This is correct starting position. Then it says back out screw 2 turns. What do they consider a turn. Is it a full rotation or half a rotation.

Wayne,
Didn't I answer this someplace in the last few daze ??
Now for the "big question" to you--WHY, are you "adjusting" it ?????
Assuming the screw driver blade is straight up--each "turn" would be when the same side of the blade is once again straight up. Ron Rich

We'll I have a problem with my juke and it scans twice and stops. So I decided to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be as far as mechanically.

Hi Wayne,
1. The "mechanical adjustments" don't change, by themselves, on a Seeburg (or almost anything else !).
2. The only "adjustment" that has any relationship with your problem is the alignment of the TMU, and the condition/adjustment, of the detent switch.

If I scan the mech and hit the contact on the detent switch the mech will stop and pick up a record. I have a feeling my problem could be the tormat memory unit. I've recapped the tsu and stepper and replaced all the tubes. I also resilvered the contact plungers. I've checked alignment of the tmu several times and the rack it's self. What is the best way to see if the selection is getting to the tmu ?

Wayne,
The chance that your problem is inside the TMU, UNLESS, it's been opened, is about as good as a "snowball's chance in ----"well, you know where. You either need to use the CORRECT Seeburg "trouble shooting guide", for you model ( whatever that is ?), or a 'scope to determine if the selection is getting there--
BTW--"re-capping" does not necessarily restore the functions of any electronics. Ron Rich

I am using the correct troubleshooting guide and all it's states is to install a new 0a2 tube in pulse amp which I've done. And to install new 2050 tube which I've done. I've even tried installing another pulse amp but still no luck. As the mech scans the manual states you should see some flickering inside the tube but I personally done see any. The tubes are all lit and the purple glow is bright. The machine used to at least pick up a record when the ground wire was broken off contact plunger. Once it was repaired no more only scans twice and stops.

Wayne,
Well, if you are putting an 0A2 in the PA--it ain't never gonna work ! ( I know--you meant 12AX7).
If the wiring to your mech is good, and the fuse is good, you either have TMU "alignment problems", or detent switch problems, or problems internally, in the TSU.
Which model "AY" do you have ? Ron Rich

I have An Ay160U what would you do next to figure out exactly where the problem resides. On the detent switch is a resistor or capacitor across the two wires. Is that something that normally fails?

Hi Wayne,
What you should have on the detent switch is not either a resister, or, cap, it should be a 100mh choke, which should check as 3-4 ohms with a meter.
There is no doubt that you have a read-out problem, and you may also have other problems, but I can only tell that once the RO problem is fixed--Like I wrote before--check the mech wiring--Also check the TMU wiring to the RCA plug--TWO "wires", MUST BE soldered, onto the outside of it ( shield and colored wire)--Use a meter between the pin and ring--it should show 2-3 ohms--depending on your meter--Also, what "shape"is the detent switch contact point in ? Is it adjusted correctly ?
If all that's good, I suspect a TSU problem-- Ron Rich
