Found Sonora phonograph

by azog » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:37 pm

Someone was discarding a Sonora phonograph. They placed it out by the curb and taped a big "FREE" sign on it. So I grabbed it.

I'd like to find more information about it, or ANY kind of information. Some searching shows a possible match in a "Sonora Troubadour", but I'm not entirely positive on that.

It does work, or works enough that it can play a (badly scratched) record, and there is a little bit of damage to the wood of the cabinet. So I'm wondering about the feasibility of getting it restored, both the woodwork and whatever, if anything, needs to be serviced mechanically. I know "worth" is a relative thing, but in this case, even if I spend a hundred dollars on service, etc, I think that is worth it. I'm not looking into restoring for trade or investment value, but mostly for personal posterity. I'd rather not work on it myself, because I'm a fumble-fingers and I don't really know what I'm doing.

Here are some images, and then a link to a YT video I made of it playing.
