I just don't see the point here. If you want a juke box -that is one thing. What has been done here is to reduce it to a box with lights and speakers. This sort of thing reminds me of occasions where I bought machines from private residences. Sometimes, Uncle Gepetto had attempted fix a dead machine and, failing that, he took a scissors and some tape and connected the speakers to whatever stereo the owner had.

I guess the "customer is always right".

Hi Rob,
I don't care for it either--- I happen to like the LPC-1 doors with the gold wire and brown cloth--I do NOT like the "phony" colored title strips at all--too much clutter for me -- I also don't think that a speaker change will improve the sound, much, if at all, in this cabinet. Ron Rich

Saw that one, and a few others - there's another guy on youtube who's "converted" a bandshell 1 in similar fashion. It's a different mindset. Some folks want to preserve and care take, and others want instant gratification with little effort. The guy in the video you posted wants a quick buck - and he'll get it. But what will the customer really be purchasing?

At the end of the day and after 30 years of repair, I've seen two kinds of people really. The first group want a solid product and places long term value above initial price (smaller group, but loyal) and the other wants as much as they can get, right now, regardless of originality and quality, for as little as they can possibly pay. Look at the modern Crosley "Bubblers" for a prime example. The guy in the video you posted created an inferior Crosley bubbler... if there is such a thing.

Obviously this is a box for someone that wants the nostalgia of a jukebox and wall box and does not want to have the headaches of repairing, lubricating and changing records and title strips on a constant bases. It is not to my liking but it is a novel idea for someone that wants the ambience of that time period. I like the color/picture title strips over the dull plain white ones. In my jukes I have a mix where some have the plain old fashioned title strips and some have the decorative color/picture title strips. Different strokes for different folks!

If you are familiar with the Chicago Land Juke Box and Slot show in St. Charles, Illinois, Mickey has some videos on that web site and attends the show. He has done some really nice restorations also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzHa71yxFw0 Not sure what he does with the electronics and mechanicals????

Hi Darrell,
Sometime about 1974, when Seeburg was running what were called (Record) One Stops ( only sold 7 " -45/33's to jukebox operators), they did an experiment with the "picture title strips". They had several "hot" locations that had interchangeable title strip holders. One was the "regular" red/white printed strips, while the other was the "picture style". They would switch out the program holders and observe the customers"making selections"--turned out that if the photo style board was in use, selection time was drastically increased--leading to less overplay--and much less revenue. Needless to say, after that they discouraged the use of "photo strips". Ron Rich

Oh hush up y'ole buzzard.
Ya got plenty of time left, so keep on a-fixin' them there music boxes fer people.

On a serious note, I've been workin' on this "project" off and on for a while.
Should have it completed and ready for "glamour shots" hopefully this spring. - then I'll post pics and a youtube video for y'all to check out.
Since it's completely "custom made" from the roll-around casters to the "roof" of it, it's a lot of work.
But it will be impressive, even to me. - I ran sound tests already, and it shook the tools on the garage walls.
(hint - its got a 200W RMS amp and four 10 inch sealed air-suspension woofers)

Been busy with work ya know, and when I get home I'm tired and just wanna relax.
Only got one day off - sundays.
You can hold on, dammit.

Hi Ron

That is interesting that looking at pictures lowered revenue. Why I like them in some of my jukeboxes, is that my grand and great grandchildren do not have to ask me what the artist looked like and others show cars and the like of that time era. I guess I will have less income now

Best

Hi Darrell,
You brought something up here, I never thought about, before now--when I waz young there weren't no TV, to speak of ( NO--I did NOT have to walk miles through snow to school--two miles to HS--but no snow--just "hills")--we had the radio that played the top 40 records--and at least two, sometimes more stations, to listen to, but I would bet MOST of us kids never even thought about what someone "looked like"--they were "recording artists" whom we listened to, and only saw if we were lucky enough to be able to go to a concert ( I never did in this country--never had enough money, or desire ??). I reckon it'd have been cheaper to restore it. I'm not against using modern technology, as I have with my two wall box.adapter/ iPod systems, but I wouldn't want to be able to see it.

Seem's more of a sales pitch than a pride of restoration / conversion... The Apple connection is already obsolete technology... and a lot of hassle to connect, looks ugly & pointless trying to CROWN an amazing Jukebox with a tatty iPad...
He should have just installed a hidden Bluetooth preamp receiver.... But he gets a C+ for effort ;)

He couldn't even be bothered to centre the owners' names at the top.
