In my never ending search to understand the workings of my jukebox,
can someone explain the purpose of the cam follower pawl?
I've watched it many times, and cannot figure this part out.

What are you calling the "Cam Follower Pawl"? In the adjustments section it mentions Cam Follwer Plate (on bottom of page 21 in the manual) however in the parts section page 120/121 the plate is called the guide plate assembly part number
2-18142-01. this guide has two pins that follow the contour of the cam. I think you may be talking about the plastic cam spring that is attached to the tone arm (part number 2-18148-01).

Let me have the correct part number and I can give you the advice.

Sorry Alan, I got the name from Bruce Wentworths site.
The part I'm referring to is the little spring metal piece that is screwed to the inside
of the tone arm cam. It's kind of an arrow shape, and held on with two phillips screws. (I don't have my manual in front of me.)

On the R-84 through to the R-94 the tone arm is plastic likewise the spring is white plastic.
On the earlier tone arm cams they were cast metal with a coppered metal spring.

Bruce,
If metal or plastic, the idea is to soften the "set down" of the needle--or to put it in other words, to "bias" the needle landing.
If "bad", or missing, the needle will "jump around" upon landing. I do have the "plastic" version in stock--it will replace the metal type-- contact me off forum, if you need it. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, that answers that question. I have the cam, and pawl, so I'm good in that regard.
