Rowe AMI CD 100 Power Issues

I have a CD 100 with no power to the CCC, player or lights but the 3 CDs at the top spin just fine. I've hooked up my MP3 player to the amp and the sound is loud and clear. It looks like I don't have 8 volts, the LED is not lit on the power supply but the other two are lit. The two fuses on the power supply board are fine. Is this a common problem? Would this be a component problem or am I looking at a new power supply? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OK--Rowe made at least 20 different "CD-100's". The very first one said "CD-100" on the ID tag. What , exactly, does your ID tag say ?
The spinning "CD's" up top have nothing whatsoever to do with the operation of that phonograph. If the 8 volt ( which must be 9, in some cases) is NOT lit, it could be the LED is bad, or the circuit is bad, or that something further on down the line is shorting it out. Do you know which CD player is installed in that phono ? If not, look at the mech controller--tell us the part number on it -- Do you know how to read "errors" --do you have a Service manual ?

Thank you Ron for taking the time to reply.
It just says CD 100 so I'm guessing its the first model?
The cd player says CD Pro, underneath is has 9843-1008 and my CCC has an eprom with Rowe J4.1, Its written in ink which is faded.
The Mech pat number is hard to make out but it looks like 6-10330-01.
I do have the Service Manual. The fuses in the amp and power supply are good.

No problem--
Sounds as if you have a CD-100 which has at least some updates--If the player has the writing embossed in the casting, it is at least a model CDM-PRO (1).
That being the case, what does the display show ? Are the three LED's on the power supply lit ?

The CD Pro is embossed in the case.
The juke seems like its dead. No display or leds lit on the CCC or Mech. All dark when powered on, The power supply is my only clue, the only led that is NOT lit is the 8v, the other too are lit. The two service bulbs work on either side. I guess I need to trace Pin 1 on the power supply, white and brown wire, to see if I'm getting any voltage.

Is there a reset switch in another place other than the one on the Amp and the two on the power supply?

There ain't no "reset switches" ANY-where in that phono--those are "circuit breakers", and if tripped, indicate that there is a problem, that MUST be addressed. If your "8volt" LED is not lit, pull off the connector from the PS and see if it turns back on (BTW--This voltage MUST read a minimum of 8.9 VDC, to function correctly, when using a CDM 12, or later PRO unit.) Hi Melam,

Can you please check your mechanism control model number because the number you give is not any of numbers used on the contyrollers for CDM 3, CDM 4, CDM-12 & CD-PRO. The CDM3 & CDM4 require a 8 volt dc supply the cdm-12 & CD-PRO require a 9 volt dc supply.

As Ron says if you remove the loom from the power supply and the 8/9 volt dc led becomes lit then you could have a short on the boards. You can determin if this is the case by putting a small lamp across the 8 or 9 volt supply connection and common, I normally use a 12 volt wedge lamp and a 24 volt lamp for putting a small load on the 28 volt dc and ac lines.
Using the lamp and your meter if the voltages go down or the led goes out you will have to repair the power supply.

Alan

I pulled the number from a silver sticker that was on the mech. It also had the serial number maybe it was the wrong spot. I will pull the plug and see what happens and check the voltage tonight. Thanks for your help.

I pulled the connector from the power supply and the 8 volt, top one, is still out. Looking at the schematic common is pin 9 and 8 Volts is pin 1 and 2. The schematic has pin 1 looking like its actually the 3rd pin down, is that correct?

Is there a schematic out there for the power supply board? Looking at the underside of the board a portion of the board trace is gone. Looks like someone soldered a wire from Pin 1 of the P501 connector to CR509.

Yea--it's in the service manual--which number board is in yours ? Ron Rich

I must have missed it. It's 60925705 rev F.

Most likely Rev F will not be shown in your manual--If it is not generating at LEAST 8.9 vdc on the "8 volt" output, it will never operate a CDM-12, or newer, correctly. There is a total replacement PCB available for that power supply--I still have some NOS boards in stock--PM me if you would like to purchase one. Ron Rich

Looks lik a bad zener diode CR511. Looking through the power supply upgrade doc it should be NTE139A. Time to test my soldering skills...
