Fast Pickup Of The record?

On my 1965 Rockola starlet, the record is selected and gets picked up and plays just fine. My question is that when I first bought it, it seemed to snatch the record alot slower than it is doing now. I have oiled some gears and such, and now it seems to grab it and put it down rather fast. I have seen other models snatch the record at the same speed, but is this ok or a sign that something is not right?

My guess--The oil has "soaked in" to where it should be, and the unit is now operating as it designed.
