I have the manual and have read the operation overviews and specific sections to my problems. It is no substitute for experience. According to the manual the pop solenoid is not shown in the cancel circuit diagram. Because the pop solenoid does fire as it enters play. No cancel.

I think you are mixing things up here--
The pop meter AND the PIN cancel coil, are fired as the SC-C contacts make, when starting record play. The only difference in operation is the fact that the ground to the pop meter coil goes directly, while, the ground to one, or the other, of the cancel coils, is split and determined by the reversing switch position. Thank you, that's helpful. I've double checked the reversing switch LC and RC and they are clean of debris and making good solid contact. I guessing if my pop solenoid is reliably firing and neither cancel circuits are firing then both the coils are shot. Interestingly (and maybe this doesn't apply to this type of solenoid) the spring plunger inside the solenoids move freely when tested with a screw driver. In the case of pinball or other sleeved solenoids they will bind because they've melted. Time for new coils I guess...

I don't think so--
Play A-1, A-2 --K-9, K-0, and watch the coils function--I think you have the adjustment "off" and the plunger is not hitting the pin--
One other possibility--I have seen the brass portion of those coils "migrate". If/when that happens, the pulse is weak. I just get some glue on the brass and slide it back into position. Ron Rich

I'm not sure if it's the odd or even solenoid that faces the rear of the mech, but that one looks like the brass end has shifted. If you go back one page you can see it is sunk in a little bit. I'm going to check again as you suggested, but that is how I aligned it yesterday. Sent it to both ends and made sure the outer solenoid could cancel the pin. However maybe it shifted bolting on the SA unit.

I screw in those 2 contact block adjustment screws tightly, but it seems to be moving. For example, I send it to k0 align it, and send it across and back and it's no longer aligned. I'm almost at my end with this thing.

OK--I think I know what's happening--
The "frog" should be contained within a "U" shaped bracket--held in place with a spring steel
"pusher". If that phono has been transported on it's back, without the proper thumb screws installed, the arm holding that bracket is damaged, and the frog jumps out of the U shaped bracket (and causes the "alignment" to change)--check that the frog, is, in fact "contained". Ron Rich

Frogs in juke-boxes?
Whatz THAT all about?

Hi Matt,
Yep--Whoopeee -- I get to "almost" say RTFM, 'septin' the manual does not call it this--but almost everybody in this business did--so I covered it in my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide"-- just so I could say---RTFG !
Ron Rich
P.S.--Manual calls it a "contact block"--original one, used by Seeburg on the model A, looked like a frog--waiting to jump something--

Post a picture or video of the contact block "frog", when it is in the pin bank, it might be helpful to see.

I took a few days off this project to get fresh eyes on the problem. I've resolved all but one issue. First, I had the wiring incorrect to the frog. I'm not sure how, because I labeled them when I first took them off, but I did. Correcting the wiring restored function to both cancel solenoids. The other issue was the alignment moving. Per Ron's advice, I checked that spring steel and felt it could have been tighter. I adjusted it to hold the frog in place tighter. I also noticed it would move roughly over selected pins on the Even side. Examining that frog pin I noticed it had a small nick or dent in the tip that could have gotten caught on the SA pin. I gently reworked this with fine sandpaper careful not to remove much metal so it would still reach the pin. After these adjustments and corrections I am happy to say it's picking up and canceling all selections on both odd and even sides. Once all selections play, it half-returns the record and stops just as it should.
The remaining issue is that it will NOT cancel selections when there is NO record. The mech continues to scan and play this selection over and over. Reading the manual seems to indicate it will go onto the next selection, which it does, but never actually cancels a missing record. If I load a record, it will play and cancel as normal. Now I don't anticipate having any empty slots, but is this a problem?
Thanks as always!

That's "egg-zactly" what it should do--as a design function, it was felt that a record could be "miss-clamped", so the mechanism was designed to "go around again, and re-try that slot". No problem--no "fix" ! Play you jukebox--enjoy it ! Ron Rich

Great news. Thanks for all your help Ron! I think there is one last issue before I can load her up, that's the freeplay functionality. As soon as the machine turns on you can hear the keyboard solenoid lock on to allow for free play. I know this is probably something in the CCU, but haven't read up on it. I would like to use one of those freeplay adapter plugs rather than have the solenoid pulled in all the time. It's been operating that way since the early 80s somehow it still works.

You are welcome--
I strongly advise that a good free play adapter be added !! I have seen too many keyboards, and wires, that have caught fire, from that solenoid being "left energized". I sell them--PM me if you wish to purchase one--

Does anything need to be done to the CCU to revert it to its original functionality? Or is the adapter the only thing needed?
