Rockola Laser 2000x CD Jukebox carriage not working

Hello. The CD carriage is not working on my Rock-ola. I have good fuses, that is for sure. Other than the CD player spinning up for a brief second on power up, there is no life to the unit. When I add credits to the machine and select a song, it does nothing for about two seconds then clears out the song in cue and removes the credit. The last time it worked, it dropped a cd before reaching the CD player. Turning the machine off and back on did not reset anything. I backed off the rear motor from the gears and manually turned it back to its home position. Moving the switch from RUN to SCAN to OFF does nothing. The CD cover flip pages does work when pressing the buttons. That is the only mechanical life the machine has right now.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,
My Guess would be that the MCU is "corrupted". This may be the result of a bad battery ( hopefully that has not yet leaked),
or just a dead batt. Look at the Service Manual, to see if there is a way to re-set defaults, replace the battery, re-set defaults, and see what happens--

I have remote batteries installed. The original battery had not leaked yet but was dead. Going by what I have read, either from online or from the manual or both, the machine should not boot up with bad/missing batteries, but mine just did. Maybe I miss read that part or the info I got was bad. I have not read anywhere on how to reset the mpu if it has corrupt data. I will look for the info, but it seams like if no batteries are installed then the memory would have been erased. After powering the machine off and on a few times, with and without batteries, I'm still having the same result.

Hello David,
Have you checked the voltage at the gripper motor. There should be between 23 to 26 volts.

David,
CORRECTION: I meant to say there should be 24 to 26 volt at the magazine motor. If the voltage is off check the 2200 MFD- 63 volt cap on the rectifier board.
Sorry for the confusion.
Bud

Don't know how to test voltage at magazine motor. At the 2200 mdf 63v cap I got 45v. I'm guessing this might be too high? I had to replace a 22mdf 35v cap on the mech control board and at least one of those on the power supply when I first got the machine. while I had the power supply out, I did change the 2200mdf 63v cap but not the 4700mdf 35v. Right now I have misplaced the manuals and schematics I have. It should turn up in the next few days as I pack all my stuff as I'm about to move to a larger home. I am convinced that my problem is on the mech control board, but I have not been able to locate a replacement yet to verify. Thanks for the reply and sorry it took so long to reply back.

Hey there - I was just trying to fix my rockola 2000 (bought it used, it was working when I got it, but after getting it home, it stopped working)

Anyway, it sounds like I'm having the same issue with the magazine not doing anything - everything boots and tests fine, but no matter what I do I can't get the magazine to move. I initially found a couple of bad fuses on the power supply, but replaced them, and the magazine did in fact turn once when I powered it up, but after that, nothing (rechecked the fuses and they are still good, so all fuses are testing good now) . Did you ever figure out what your problem was and if so, what did you do to fix it?

Not sure where/what to further test on the power supply / distribution to pinpoint the problem.

I notice there are a few different PC boards that have red LED's on them. There is a very small one to the right of the magazine with a single LED that is not on. There is a slightly larger PC board mounted on the left side of the CD player that has a couple of LED's (looks like some relays and such on the board) and those lights are not on. There is a larger board towards the front of the unit that has about 5 LED's and those are on/flashing. Not sure what LEDs are supposed to be on/off, or how I could use this info to help pinpoint my problem, but it sounds power related.
