New member - Rock-Ola 450 Help

by wrkey » Thu Apr 28, 2011 7:01 pm

Greetings,

Just found this board and figured I should join up. I have a Rock-Ola 450 and about 2,000 45s. I've restored my 450 and have a 'repair page' where I cover all I've done to it including the 'normal' problems these machines have and a bit about the glass replacement I've done. You can find the page on my website at: http://www.rustykey.com

Just click on the 'Projects' link and then the Rock-Ola page.

Hope this helps and I look forward to the discussions here!

Rusty

Thank you for all the work you did to help others. I just bought a rock-ola 450 today and plan on repairing it. I do have to get it out of a basement however. I was going to take the lid off and whatever I can to lighten it up. Any suggestions on moving it? I did read the "moving a juke box sticky" and learned a lot. One thing for sure is do not tip it and be very, very careful! Thank you all for having me on this thread!!!

Arran, Rock-olas will travel on their back -just fine. Hand tighten the four mechanism bolts. Secure the tonearm with string, remove any records that are in the open area of the magazine and make sure the glass is either locked or securely taped shut. Also check that the electronics in the base of the machine (if any) are either secured or removed.

Arran,
Rob is getting "forgetful" in his "old age" -- the turntable must be removed on a RockOla prior to moving it--it just lifts up !

Welcome to the forum Rusty & Arran,

Most jukeboxes can be fully tied down with retension or lockdown bolts (not sure about Wurlitzer, never worked on them or had the inclination to do so).
Ron is correct re the turntable (platter in some countries) on Rowe Ami & Rock Ola, most operators used to put it in the cash bag for transportation.
When moving a jukebox check every part such as the amplifier, credit unit etc that they are not loose on their fixing bolts/screws, title racks can have tape on them to stop them spinging open, you can tape up coin mechanisms and we always used to put tape over the doors again to stop them springing open.

When ever possible transport upright and secure to your vehical (I have the results of a jukebox being thrown about in the back of a lorry, almost total devastation) but if restriced then put on its back, if doing this we would place a length of 4 x 2 under the back of the jukebox near the top so that you could lift it easier at the destination, it also helps the jukebox from not moving.

Regards
Alan

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I removed the top, lower section with woofers and the complete changer. These seemed to lighten the unit drastically. Tonight I will go get the case.
