Rowe MM4 - volume control wiring.

by murk » Sat Sep 02, 2006 2:06 pm

Total novice here looking for some advice please.

I've been "restoring" a Rowe MM4 juke, and recently sourced a R-2179A amplifier which works perfectly in the juke.

Trouble is, it's really really loud.

I have a volume control (marked AMI) which appears to have a twin gang pot and a cutoff switch. There's a terminal strip with green/red/black/white wires attached - black appears to be common, white comes from the cutoff switch.

The amp has a five pin plug with bare-ended wires - white/green/red/black/screen.

Does anyone know how I should connect these wires please? I have manuals, but they don't cover the volume controls.

Thanks, in anticipation.
Marc

I don't know if this helps, but I've now discovered that the amplifier is from a Rowe R-82.

Hi Andrew,

The distortion may be down to two or three things.
1. You have a five wire pre amp fitted and you are trying to contrl it with a two wire control or you are using a five wire control but the cable is not screened.
2. the large smoothing capacitors may be at fault.
3. One of the channels may have blown output fuses.

I hope this helps.

Hi there-

Another new guy on the forum. I have a CMM4 with volume wiring issues. I have some cut wires, and was missing the volume control pot, reset swithch and mounting plate. I have gotten a hold of the pieces I need, but am uncertain what has been cut from where. The plug into the amp labeled volume control has a wire that is just hanging.. The amp is 602-04359. I realize that this is minimal information, but would be grateful for any advice. Possibly photos of the wiring on the face of the amp?
