Rowe 84 Selection Keys

Evening

I have a Rowe R-84 that is kinda - sorta - up and running.

The selection keys seem to have a comlete circuit, however the 6 thru 0 keys fail to register that they have been pushed? Keys 1 thru 5 work just fine. Need guidance on where to go from here, can not find help in the manual?

Upon start up the unit goes into a test mode and starts playing the A side and then the B side of every record in sequence. I can manually clear the memory and then make manual seection with keys 1 thru 5 only. I have been told I need to replace the battery on the computer board to stop the testing, does this sound correct?

Best
Darrell

Hi Darrell,
Possible broken trace, or open plug on keyboard/price board/CCC.--also--rather rare, but all buttons bad ?
Yes--low battery CAN cause "strange problems--test it ? if low, remove it, and run without it, to see if problems persist. Ron Rich

Hello Ron

Since half the buttons do work, 1 thru 5, I do not think that is the problem.

Will step thru the other items you mentioned and let you know what the problem was.

Have you cleaned, resoldered and repaired every pin and plug yet? Have you looked at the schematic and found the common circuit for 6-0? Like Ron said bad batteries are bad news.

Hello Darrell,

Unless you can understand the dynamics of computer circuits you will not be able to to work on the CCC. I suggest that you send it to an engineer who can test it for you.

In the meantime I suggest that you look at the Pricing Board top and bottom connections for dry joints (cold joints in the USA) on the connection pins.

All the lines of data goes through this board (you should regard it as just a big connection).

There is not a common connection for numbers from 6 to 0 The issue will be in the strobe or return signals.

The key board checks out fine. WIll examine pricing board and see where this leads to. Thanks for info.
