Is there something missing in the panels on this juke?

Maybe my bulbs are too bright? I can't imagine it being the bulbs because mine looks LESS bright than all the other pictures I've seen (mine looks down right dim.)

You can see the record mechanism through the panels. However, every photo I've seen of other people's Bandshell jukes you can't see the 'guts' through the panels.

Does anyone know if I'm missing a diffuser layer or something else?

There should be a white/opaque diffuser, about 1/8-1/4 in thick, held in the frame, next to all bottom glass. There also should be a black metal screen diffuser covering the lower lamp. See the parts book---

Both of those are present - I'll post a picture shortly

If present, I would assume that they are "replacements" someone made-- too thin ?

Your best course of action may be to line the panels both front and sides with theatrical lighting gel such as the one as frost, this is a white gel that is just frosted. the rolls of this are usually 48 inches x 21inches there is a light and heavy frost version.

The cost of a sheet in the UK would be around £10 - £12, so you can get a cheap solution.

I've thought about that too. One of the guys on the KLOV jukebox forum was thinking of doing the same thing (Level42) I think I saw you on that thread as well. I think one of the issues with inserting a gel lining is that the front glass has a pattern and (it appears) the defuser panel also has a pattern on the inside as well.

Wait, you were probably suggesting the gel be placed on the side of the juke

If anyone on the forum here has a nice USC1/USC2 and would be willing to take a snapshot of the interior so I can see the front panel and compare it to mine that would be awesome!

Hello - I recently bought 2 Firestar Bandshell Jukes. Together I should be able to keep one working USC2.

Looking at the pictures, your mech is too close to the front panel as there is suppose to be a few inches of space there - slide it back to the rear stops.

regarding the down light shining on the woofers... There are holes under the florescent tube for the light to shine thru. On top of the holes is a "brittle" plastic strip that was originally Orange and Purple but has faded out to yellow and pink after 40 years. One of my jukes has this strip in good condition. One of my jukes was stored in an abandoned building and had a hard life before it was discarded there. This strip was covered in black tarry grime so I removed it (gently with a putty knife as there is a strip of tape holding it down). Using just my finger and warm water at the sink I attempted to clean the plastic without removing the orange/ purple. Just the simple action of wiping dry the plastic with a soft viva paper towel caused some orange and pink color to come off with the grime. So I need to get some theatrical lighting gel which I had never heard of until this thread - THANKS.

In regards to the mech not being in the correct position-- that should make no difference as the lamps are connected to the cabinet, in this model. Also-FYI, the mechanism should be pinned AND screwed down to the shelf, when operating--see the "I & O" Manual.
I think that the colors, including the "white" have just faded--Perhaps someone at sometime has run "daylight" lamps in this phono("Cool White" was OEM ) ? Ron Rich

If you look at his pictures the mech is slid up almost touching the front lexan panel instead of back where it should be so it literally shades the florescent lamp from much of the front orange panel. I agree the mech should be locked in place but his is slid up front. You can see it's silhouette.

Here is a pic of my USC2 showing the correct spacing between the Mech record rack and the front.




Thanks for explaining that "cool white" lamps are what is needed - I did not know that "daylight" lamps could damage the plastic.

Because my lower grill orange / purple plastic is faded out, I have ordered a package of these theater colored sheets- orange and purple - that are made to put in front of can spot lights for theatre stage lighting. I ordered them from Guitar World online for $5.
