Hi all,
This is my first time posting in Phonoland. I am a new proud owner of a Seeburg LS-1 Spectra jukebox.
I have owned the jukebox for about 2 months. When I bought it, I immediately bought the service/operation/installation manual. Everything ran smoothly for a few weeks, but lately I've had a problem that isn't intermittent: every time I make a selection, the phonograph picks up the record, starts playing, then trips after about 20 seconds of the song and puts the record back. This happens when playing either side of the record.
I have looked at a few websites and have read similar problems, but I didn't want to make any assumptions. Otherwise, this jukebox sounds wonderful and I couldn't be happier owning it. There is nothing like the sound and anticipation of a jukebox scanning for your selection!

Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Hi James,
What you will need to determine is --is this a mechanical, or electrical, problem. The easiest way to do this is to slide the mechanism out all the way and play a selection. When it detents at the selection, the detent lever should fall down. Hold it down, and see if it will play the record, or if the coil is being energized. Let us know what you determine, and we can go from there--

Thanks for the quick response, Ron! I held down the detent lever, but the same thing happened. It stops at the same place in the song every time, if that helps.

Maybe it just doesn't like old country music?

Essentially, if there is the characteristic "clack" sound -similar to the trip the problem is electrical.

If this is happening well into the playing grooves, the likely culprit is the reed trip switch or magnet have somehow slipped out of position.

You are not answering my question--WHAT happens--does the detent/trip coil, fire, or is it a mechanical problem--??
(Hold it down till the needle passes that point that it usually trips on)--

Rob! You solved my issue! Thanks so much. It was that pesky magnet. I looked down there and swore I saw it in place, but then I realized it was sitting right below where it had fallen off. I stuck it back on and made some adjustments to the reed trip switch, and voila! Working again.

Ron, thanks so much for your help as well! Sorry I didn't answer your question, I thought I did. I held down the detent lever, and it got to the part where it normally trips and it tripped just like it was. I guess the answer is it was a mechanical problem.

Well, Yea-sort of a "mechanical problem"--although one might classify it as an electrical problem also--the trip switch being triggered, by the errant magnate. I was attempting to find out if you felt a "pulse" on the detent coil when you held the lever down.The "pulse" would have told me what Rob correctly guessed---Glad it's fixed----word of advise--Properly, oil that mechanism---Ron Rich
