Okay, Folks, can you help me? Off Topic

Hey,
I picked up a 2003, 27" Sanyo Flat Screen TV at the thrift store half-price sale for $20 bucks (all my other TV's have died over the last few months with that thin, white line accross the screen). I'll get around to working on them, but I'm not in the mood right now. It's not "flat" as we know nowadays and still has that deep cabinet.
The thing plays beautifully, but cannot stand the closed-captioned words displaying on the screen.
I have gone through all the screen menus but can't turn it off. Is this a feature that can only be turned off by the remote (which I don't have)? If I need to find some type of Universal remote which has the capability, then I'll go that route.
I know some of you folks have dabbled in other venues other than audio, so hoping someone can offer some tips. --BB

If the onscreen menu's (audio) do not have a section concerning options for Closed Caption dispays, you'll need the original remote.

It might be hidden under a sub-menu of a sub-menu of the main menu.
You might try looking over this page --
http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg ... _list.html -- to see if you can spot an owners manual for your TV or a similar model. Normally, the controls don't change that much from model to model.
Failing all else, you can probably find a replacement remote control. I take it this is an analog model? If so, this might work --
http://us.sanyo.com/Remotes/Basic-Stand ... al-No-PIP- -- Seems it's only $6.58.
Sanyo also sells model-specific remote controls --

Thanks so much for your help. This is just a big silver cabinet with a deep chassis, heavy as hell. This thing has to weigh more than an old HP Laserjet III, which is 58 pounds.
The model I have is a DS27910, but I downloaded a DS27930 manual which shows the remote with the Caption feature on it and the manual explains four options. So, I need a remote and will check out the other sites that Joe suggested. I knew there was something out there that had free manuals, but couldn't find it.
Thanks again, MattTech and Joe. I'll save the manualsonline home page and scope out the other sites for a remote, and see if I can find some manuals for my older TV's. --BB

Hey Folks,
Thanks again for the Sanyo TV remote info. I had two options: either a Universal remote (about 7 bucks), or a model-specific (about 27 bucks). Well, I went with the latter, being me.
When I powered up the TV by remote, the captions disappeared. Even though the remote has a gazillion buttons, many of them can be used for my applications.
I like the fact that many here will chime in and render advice and aid to those who need it. I try to contribute in my own little way, praying that I don't misguide anyone. --BB

No, I think that was Matt talking about teef-smacking. I don't resort to violence until it's the last straw and absolutely necessary. Some folks do need a smack up side the head, though. I call it the "Aunt Pearl" and will have to share that story later...it will make you howl, LOL. --BB
