by njinjune » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:46 pm

Hi! I am new to this topic, and am seeking some help finding out information about a record player/radio I received from my grandparents. It is a Motorola SK79W-1Z. Does anyone have any information about this piece, and its potential value? Thank you so much! Jill

Here's what you need to do. Remove the back. Verify the set is tube type. Look for chassis numbers. Is there a reverb unit (Motorola calls it Vibrasonic), amp chassis, and preamp chassis as well as the tuner chassis. I can assure you this is a good set if working right. I have handled a few. Like most other similiar stereo sets of the 1960's it's not worth much because of size. However, the real value is in the parts. The amplifier alone as is no upgrade work should bring $75-$100 even in these times. This is a high tube count set. The sound is great. It is good stuff and I hope you decide to keep whole fix up and enjoy.
