Noisy Latch Bar Solenoid AMi Continental

by Gordo » Thu Jan 21, 2016 4:31 am

HI,

I have an AMi Continental with a very loud Latch bar solenoid.

It bangs really hard when I select a record and is very loud particularly when a song is playing.
It does not go through the speakers so I assume it's a mechanical problem.

Any suggestions how I can dampen this noise without adjusting the sector mechanism?

Regards and thanks in advance.

Gordo.....

Gordo, other than taking note of where metal clashes with metal and experimenting with some sort of padding, there isn't much that can be done. The two Continentals I owned were both noisy in their selector systems. It is just the nature of the design. People back then were used to clunky mechanical items...in some sense, it adds to the nostalgic appeal :-)

I remember playing a DEC Consolette in early 1969. It made zero noise and seemed kinda lifeless compared to the gears and clacking buttons on the E-M boxes.
