Seeburg V200 won't unlatch

by Oz200 » Mon Jan 07, 2013 1:01 pm

Hi, I have a V200 that has been happily operating for some years. Over time, it has developed a liking for not unlatching an occasional letter or number key, which I manually unlatch by hitting another key - no big deal. Now it won't unlatch at all so I took a peek and this is where I hope you learned folks can help me. The latch bar solenoid is linked to a spring loaded cam which appears to trip a latch cancellation when the second key is pressed. The cam, which looks to be originally made from bakelite, is broken. Whoever had it before me (I assume) has fabricated a thin piece of plastic(now also broken) to act as the cancellation cam and screwed it carefully to the original broken bakelite one. So I thought maybe I might just make up my own bit of plastic to afix to the bakelite cam but first I thought I would ask your advice as to whether a replacement part is available, or do I need a whole latch bar solenoid assembly?
The selection process appears ok. You add a coin, credit is given. Select a letter, the solenoid pulls in and buzzes away until you select a number and then it 'de-energizes'. Credit is subtracted. The buttons stay down, that's all.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help

Oz,
You "ain't gonna like" what I say here--that fiber link is NLA--you will need to build something yourself. If the solenoid itself is "sticky", it too will need replacement ( or, if the phono is "set for free play", and the solenoid is always energized--in which case I would strongly suggest that you purchase an electronic replacement credit unit--PM me about this , if you wish.
Sometime in the late 1960's, I tossed out well over 100 of those "links", as the company I worked for decided that anything that had not sold in the past two years was "excess stock" upon which we paid a yearly tax--and they wanted it gone (well over 100 NEW chrome 3W-1 covers too) !

Hi Ron, thanks for the reply - you come highly recommended! I accept that it's no longer available and as you say undoubtedly there are many things that have 'gone west' because 'we'll never need them again'. So I guess I'll get busy manufacturing. I have seen quite a bit of info on the net regarding free credit conversions but I kinda like the idea of putting a coin in the slot. Surely that's an equal part in the experience. Thanks again for clearing that up.

Oz,
You are welcome--FYI the replacement credit unit I sell, has an (extra charge :( )optional feature, that allows the use of coins--
