NSM PRESTIGE ES 160 - HELP! NOT WORKING

by NSMPRESTIGE » Wed Aug 19, 2015 5:55 pm

Hi all,

Thanks to those of you who took the time to read this post. I recently purchased a NSM Prestige ES 160. In all honesty, I know very little about jukeboxes, but it looked absolutely brilliant and I couldn't wait to get it home.

When plugged into the mains, the jukebox turns on, lights up etc., but the main display (i.e., where credit and so forth are supposed to be displayed) does not...Putting in credit does absolutely nothing, but the slider mechanism works fine when you press the button manually (I apologise for my lack of knowledge, I really am just saying what I can see!) Checked all the fuses, they were all fine aside from one on the main circuit board which had gone, replaced this and seems to be no issue there.

What i'm quite concerned about is that the main board states 'should not be used on any device other than ES II'. I'm not sure if this has been replaced by a previous owner who perhaps couldn't source the part, or whether this is actually the appropriate circuit for this jukebox.

Any advice, however large or small would be extremely appreciated.

Chris

Hi Chris,
Please read "Attn Newbies" above--then look at the rear, outside of the cabinet for an ID tag--and model number--my GUESS is it will say "ES-11" somewhere on it--"ES" is the "Electrical System" model number. As for fuses--how do you know they are "good" ? --be SURE they are the correct size and type ! Ron Rich

Hi
Could you post a pic of the machine and control board. If you wanted to get someone else to look at it there are plenty of jukebox service people based in and around the Sheffield area

Chris: the ES 11 is the electronics series. and is correct for a Prestige. I have a prestige 2 that is the sister model. there are many fuses on that model. besides the ones on the amp and central control. there is a cover marked "attention mains voltage" it has more fuses. and that is where I would start. Get a service manual. it will help you to describe the parts and will direct you what to check out next. Mark

Dear all,

Many thanks to those of you who replied, it's greatly appreciated!

Do any of you have a contact in the Sheffield area for repairs? Someone reliable.. I've been told of Juke joint, but he's away for months now.

I will upload the photographs as requested in a couple of days. One thing we did note was a part on the main circuit board that appears to be burnt out. The code at the top is 217 042 01 344 250 if this is of any use to anyone (I highly doubt it will be)...

Apologies for the late reply, it has been a hectic couple of weeks! I hope I can post more information for you guys soon as I really do appreciate any help and realise that what i'm providing you at the moment isn't really of much use!

Kind regards,

Chris

Just for information:

When NSM started ES technology, all models got an ID plate with "ES" - e.g. Festival ES 160. These models select with two digits and letter A or B.
Soon after that ES II was invented, but ID plates stayed the same, e.g. Festival ES 160. Means the ID plate doesn't give an idea about ES or ES II technology (except Prestige II in 1984).
The easiest way to check whether ES or ES II is installed, is to check in which way the selections are being made.

Next difference in ES II can be the mechanism. ES II can be equipped with Shure 17CM or an Ortofon cartridge. Centrale and carriage differ from each other.
