IS THIS A TYPO?!?!

by Phonophan79 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 8:37 pm

I was watching an auction on eBay for an Edison Army + Navy model Diamond Disc phonograph. As much as would ABSOLUTELY love to have won this machine, i'm in no position to spend the cash. :-( ...but look at this bid history. it jumps last minute from 1,000 to 10,000. ...but then there is another bid after that. Is this unit really worth 10,000?

No way!! I think they usually go in the US for around $800-$1200 depending on condition. They'd want to include a few bars of gold bullion in the deal for that price.

Straight from the horses mouth!!
This is what the seller had to say on another board.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The high bid and underbid are both fraudulent. I was immediately suspicious when the item sold, and unfortunately, my suspicions were proved correct. The last legit. bid was at $880. The high bidder contacted me and told me his account was hi-jacked. Same goes for underbidder. A search on the items that these people bid on make this clear; the high bidder and under bidder bid tens of thousands on the same items.

Why this was done, there is no telling. Obviously I am not pleased, and am now forced to relist the machine if the highest legitimate underbidder doesn't accept my second chance offer. I would share the bidding list, but I don't want the two top bidders to be given grief, as their accounts have just been wrecked, and they are trying to piece them back together.

Still, if anyone would like to purchase it for the high bid, or even $880, I would be immensely grateful!
