Transporting Juke Box Safely

I purchased my Juke Box 25 years ago. I transported the Juke Box 40 miles. The person that sold me the Juke Box said all I needed to do was to make sure I tightened down the 4 nuts that secure the Select-O-Matic to the slide Mechanism that is used to remove the unit from the cabinet. I had no problems in moving the Juke Box in this manner. Was I just fortunate or are there other Guide Lines I should use when transporting a Juke Box. I have not found any information regarding this subject in the Manuals and thought maybe someone on this boards would have some words of wisdom that could save me a ton of troubles later.

Thank you for any insight you can provide regarding safe handling of a Juke Box while moving them.

Hello Darrell,

I do not know your jukebox type however most jukeboxes do have some form of locking down the mechanism to the cabinet floor, with Seeburgs and NSM there is also a means to lock the mechaism at one end of the track by using a locking bolt.

Make sure that amps are located on their plates and locked in place with clips por screws into the cabinet (as in the case with Rowe Ami) use gaffer tape over clips to secure.
Remove loose items such as coin mechnisms or tape in place.
Tape up the doors of the jukebox to prevent them springing open during transit.
If transported upright chock up the jukebox so it is off of its casters.
Use plenty of protection under the straps that you are using to tie down the jukebox, use folded blankets over the corners or a similar material.

Sorry about vaguness, it is a Seeburg DS100H. Thank you for the tips and hints that can prevent damage to a Juke Box in transit.

The info for each model is printed in the "Information and Operation" guide for that model.
IMHO, "tightening the (3,or ) 4 bolts down", ONLY, on a Seeburg is the worst thing that can be done.
This adds stress to the base frame assembly, and (too) often bends it.
One thing that the I & O manuals assume, is that the "pins" securing the mechanism are, in fact, installed.
I have seen MANY mechs missing them--- and that does do damage ! Ron Rich

Yes--It's shown in the I&O guide--I don't recall which space it is in each model, but all models up to the SMC used two additional "tie down bolts"--and padding to secure the carriage. I included a "generic description" of how to do it, in my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide". Ron Rich
