Rockola 437 not aligning or picking up records properly

by rockola 437 » Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:44 pm

Hi all- Hopefully you can help this Army guy fix the jukebox that my church just gave me.

Everything comes on and works on the Rock-ola 437. the only issue i am having is the arm that picks up and returns the record to the basket is not picking up the record. Also that same arm is not setting the record down in the proper position to be played after it picks it up from the basket. Please help me adjust this so that i can get it to align properly. The far side of the arm goes under the record instead of inline with the record. and when it sets it down it is off center to the front left of the jukebox.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey Army Guy--
Welcome--and Thanks for your service!!!
It ainna an "adjustment"--don't "tweak" nothing !
Get thee to a good hardware store ( or Granger, if you can) and purchase a "can" of 3 in One (electric) motor oil--SAE 20 wt.
Once you have obtained that stuff, remove any record and select that space--stop the gripper motor with the bow straight up. Notice how the center section ( that grabs the record) can be "pushed in" --Oil the part that moves-- then pull out on the bow--see where it moves--oil it there. Then there are two gears on the side that work the gripper--get a good amount of oil down in between them--they must slide past one another. Put oil in all of the gripper joints, and the two bearings underneath--Work the oil in--I have spent as long as 1/2 hour, doing so, and it should work just fine--

Ron-

That worked perfectly! Thanks.
Next issue:
I took apart the song selector mechanism where you'd press A1 etc. it came off in 3 peices. I put it back together and now it is not registering money put into the machine. It will only allow me to select a song if I press the 'credit button' inside. This worked prior to disassembly. Any suggestions?

This is just an observation. I guess you've checked all the connections to the selector bank
but are you sure there isn't a coin stuck in the coin gear mechanism?
Have you disturbed any of the connecting leads to the coin gear?

Hi Army Guy,
As Riley suggested--are the coins going all the way into the cashbox ? If so, is there a fuse on the credit unit--If so, DO NOT replace it until AFTER you have examined the coin switches( under the unit that handles the coins). Be sure that all the switches are open prior to installing a new, CORRECT size, fuse---

So I took apart the 3 pieces that are the letter selector buttons, number selector button and the contact cover to clean... I'm a dumbass and this was a mistake. Somehow I put them back together not right causing all my issues. Anyone have an installation diagram and explanation of how not to put this back together or what I'm looking for so it all starts working again?

She-ite ! That may be tough--the parts manual would be the only thing that would give you a clue--contact adjustments. and maybe some photo's, should be in the Service Manual--I ain'ta gots neither-- nor would I remember something like that-- Sorry !! Ron Rich
