Turntable not spinning on 1962 Motorola SP26B

by tab1959 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 8:51 am

The turntable on my Motorola Stereophonic SP26B from 1962 is not spinning all of a sudden. And when it does, it is very slow. Does this mean I need a new motor? How and where can I get this fixed these days without it costing a lot. It is definately worth repairing since it is in Mint condition.

Thank you.

Remove the platter and check the idler wheel and linkage. The wheel may not be contacting the motor shaft and the platter rim at the same time. That's where the power is transfered from the shaft-to-wheel-to-inside rim. I little cleaning and lube may be in order. Check the inside rim of the platter also.
