Hi,
Thanks for the information. I knew it was the US model but did not say that in my previous posts. I'll accept your opinion that that accounts for the two extra tubes. No I have not played the radio with other speakers. The speaker jack connectors are not very standard.
I've reviewed the back panel of the radio and the inside of the speakers. here is what is printed.
On the radio it says:
Model 5299 U/S Stereo
If there is anything printed past the word stereo I cannot see it. The stereo decoder starts in the middle of the word Stereo. so there could be something else printed, but I do not think there is anything else.
On the speakers there is no printing on the back panel other than the removeable label that says Mystic Maestro and the stamp that says Made in W. Germany. On the inside there is a diagram of the amp and on the bottom it says the following:
Grundig Majestic "Stereo Mate" 1
Then on the bottom line of the diagram:
