WurliTzer 2200

Hi

There are two mini W44 lamps in the stepper/control unit of a Wurly 2200. I was wondering what role they played in the operation of the jukebox and when are they supposed to light-up?

The manual doesn't say what they are for, but I'm guessing they are super important.

The two original lamps were blown so I have replaced them, but the new ones don't seem to be getting power, ever!

Also, they are used in a "ballast circuit"--that I can't recall at the moment--see the schematic --

Ron's suspicions confirmed.........Those are supposed to be #55. They limit current as the pin is being punched. When you hear the "bzzt" that is when they are lit.

Rock-Ola does the same using a different, single lamp.

The application takes advantage of the "T factor" in filament lamps. they have low resistance when cold and much higher resistance a fraction of second when the filament is white hot. the idea is to get a strong initial punch but back-off the current so as to not overheat the coil in series with the lamp.
