SMC-1 title strips

by MrGorf » Fri Apr 04, 2014 2:30 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knew why Seeburg put those colored plastic sheets over the title strip windows on the SMC-1. Seems like all they do is make it harder to read the selections. Just wondering if they were standard issue.

Thanks
Don

Don,
Seeburg did not put any "colored plastic sheets" on them ??
You must have something someone else has done--

That would explain why I had trouble seeing the selections.
I removed them and everything is so much better, although whoever put them in went to a lot of trouble. I had to take the glass on the top section completely out to remove the overlay.
In hindsight I should have known they weren't original as they were different shades of blue.

Weird - I just pulled this picture from a 'for sale' thread on KLOV and it looks just like mine did - darker blue on the upper window and a lighter color on the lower.

Hi Don,
It's possible that my great, but not too log memory, is fooling me here-I just do not recall seeing it before--
Perhaps it was a "polarize sheet", to stop "glare" (in a dark bar)--?? They did do that one one other model (FC-1). Ron Rich

It's absolutely original.
Even the ads have those.

It's purely cosmetics, I have new ones on my juke, the original ones were completely yellowed. New ones make it looks so much better!

Friend of mine uses foils to color the lights in a theater. He had a sample book with all foils in it. I just matched the best looking ones.
I'll have to find the pictures of them. I'll post them shortly.

ps. Sorry for the delay

Here are the foils I used. They are used in Theaters as filters for their Lights.

Over here they're called "theatrical gels."

You can find A4 sized acetate on eBay in different colours quite cheaply, I used it to restore the illuminated panels on my Rock-Ola 443.

I overlaid them to achieve the right effect.

Guys,
Since my previous posting, I have had a couple of SMC-1's in for service--Yes, the upper sections on both of them had the "gels"--so my memory failed me--again  Ron Rich
