Rockola Super Sound Model 490 sound Trouble

by edisonsclone » Tue Jul 17, 2007 5:16 am

My Rockola Super sound is giving me a grumbly/static sound when a record is played. I think I have it pinpointed to a small unit, known as the audio distribution assembly. This unit is made up of 2 speaker output transformers, and my guess is they need to be replaced. I am wondering if any one has ever had this trouble and could let me know if this infact is what needs to be replaced.

Grumbly sounds are usually caused by loose connections. I have never found such a sound from a transformer. More likely candidates:

- Plugs and sockets.

- Potentiometers (controls)

- Switches

- Tube sockets

- Bad solder joints

- Bad speakers

- Bad tubes or semiconductors

- Resistors going bad

- Leaky capacitors

Hi! Have you re-capped the amp yet? All the old capacitors need to be replaced & it should sound fine. I do this for a living, so if you are in need of help, give me a call @ 269-978-7213 & I'd be glad to help you out. Regards, Ross
