Separate selling from technical

by Record-changer » Mon May 15, 2006 10:03 pm

I suggest separating completely the posts for technical info and the posts selling stuff.

To make sure I understand your question correctly: You mean (for example) technical messages about gramophones and messages from people selling a gramophone?

In that case, this already should be separate and you are right: messages about selling (for example) a gramophone should be placed in the "Classifieds -> For Sale" forum and not in the main gramophones forum.

Maybe I'll add subcategories in the future like for example: "Gramophones -> For Sale" ... I'll look into that.

I don't want to be "too tough" about offtopic postings while people are getting used to this new forum, but I will keep an eye and start moving messages to the appropriate forum...

I think phpBB leaves some sort referring message when a topic is moved, that should help ppl find where a topic moved to. 8)

thanks for your suggestion!

I am also thinking of the posts in the 78, 45, cylinder, and phonograph boards. Most of them are for-sale notices.

Maybe you need one heading for trade, with subheadings for 78, 45, 33, cylinder, gramophone, and phonograph , and another heading for technical, with subheadings for records, gramophone, and phonograph.

Hmm...

I've been thinking about this but I am still not sure what's best. I had already considered to add to every main subject (such as gramphones or jukeboxes) two additional sub categories: "Visitors have for sale" and "Visitors are looking for something", but I'm afraid there will be too much categories then, which might make it confusing to visitors.

Not sure what's best yet...

anybody else any idea or suggestion? I see "for sale" and "wanted" messages are posted in almost every cateogory, but I'm afraid that if I add a "for sale" and "wanted" subcategory to every main category, there will be too much categories to choose from. What do you and other visitors think?? :)
