if it is hoping instead of stopping, first try cleaning the slipring contacts of it. If that doesn't work one of the micro switches will probably have to be replaced. Before replacing a switch, try dripping some contact cleaner into it via the actuator opening and working by-hand for a while.
If it becomes necessary to replace a switch, here is the adjustment procedure:

While it is best NOT to try and fix most problem by tinkering with adjustments, in the case of these stopping switch assemblies I find that after a period of extensive use (52 years qualifies) the bearing will often have become worn to the point where the entire switch assembly wobbles. This can lead to a slight delay in switch actuation and this causing the sprag not to engage till the following record slot.
Try the cleaning steps first.
