Rowe AMi Jal model playing wrong selection...

Hello, I have owned this machine for several years now without any issues until recently when I make a selection it plays the record forward clockwise of the selection. For example if I chose A1, it will play C1. Any suggestions? I have a feeling it might be an easy fix but not exactly sure what I should be looking for. Thanks for any help or advice!

Have you checked the timing mark on the Stop Plate Assembly (seen as 200 or 00) with the mechanism at the A1 position?
If this is correct as per your manual, i.e the 200 mark opposite the step in the search unit mounting bracket on the right hand side. I would remove the search unit and check that it does ineed push out the correct pins.

The usual test for this both on the A side & B sides is A1, C2, E3, G4 etc (up a number and a letter each time) on the B side B1, D2, F3, H4 etc, with the search unit standing on the base of the jukebox it is easy to see that it is selecting correctly.

If the pins do push out in the correct locations, then check the micro switches on the stop plate assemby.

Hello Alan, Thank you for your reply and suggestions for the problem I am experiencing. I have the owners/shop manual for this machine but have misplaced it. I hope I can locate it and follow your suggestions along with it. Will let you know my results.

Hello Alan, I apologize for not answering you sooner as I had hoped I would be able to locate the manual that I have for this machine and use it along with your instructions. I have not come across it yet. I played it yesterday and noticed that when I made some selections it was by passing them all together and then would return to the stop position. I could hear a click sound as it passed I assume the proper pin. Now on some selections instead of playing the next record it is skipping several. When you mention the stop plate assembly can you tell me where exactly that is located. I was looking for the numbers 200 or 00 and didn't see anything. Also do I have to select A1 as per your instructions and then turn it off? Of course if I select A1 usually it goes to B1. Is the search unit the wheel with all the row of pins? Sorry for these questions but without the manual I am at a loss of what I'm looking for. Thanks again for your help and guidance with this.

Fred, here is the install for the stopping switch:

It is the rotating assembly right behind the search unit.

if it is hoping instead of stopping, first try cleaning the slipring contacts of it. If that doesn't work one of the micro switches will probably have to be replaced. Before replacing a switch, try dripping some contact cleaner into it via the actuator opening and working by-hand for a while.

If it becomes necessary to replace a switch, here is the adjustment procedure:

While it is best NOT to try and fix most problem by tinkering with adjustments, in the case of these stopping switch assemblies I find that after a period of extensive use (52 years qualifies) the bearing will often have become worn to the point where the entire switch assembly wobbles. This can lead to a slight delay in switch actuation and this causing the sprag not to engage till the following record slot.

Try the cleaning steps first.

Rob NYC, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner but want to thank you for your reply and for the links to the adjustment procedure. That's what I was hoping to have if I had located the manual and it's a great help. I was looking at it earlier and I assume I have to remove the mechanism shroud to get to this. When I find the time soon I will tackle cleaning the contacts as you suggested and hopefully that will solve my issues. I will report back with my results...
