Rock-Ola 1454, not spinning records

by MikeLinterman » Mon Mar 30, 2015 3:23 am

I am up here in Canada, I read in a forum that you know a lot about a ROCK-OLA Jukeboxes.

I have a 1454 that we got from my wife's Grand parents. I cleaned it up a bit and had it working fine but then it just stopped.  Everything works like it should except the motor armature will not spin. I have taken it apart and lubricated it with some good bearing grease but it doesn't help.

It sounds like the motor is vibrating and when I touch something metal to it there is a magnetic field so I know it's got power.

Any idea what the next step I can take to get her running again?

Major overhaul of the mechanisms are overdue by now.
Add in the re-adjustments needed afterwards, and you've got a big job ahead.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

The T-T motor is 120 vac so if the shaft is free to turn either remove it and connect it directly to an AC outlet, or if you have a meter, test the voltage going into it.

I believe that the same relay that powers the B+ in the amp also powers the motor so check that the 5U4 is glowing and there is sound from the pickup when in play mode.

Given how old that motor is it is possible that the stator has too many shorted turns (they all have at least some).

Hi Mike,
It would probably help to know which motor, you are writing about ? I assume it is the turntable motor --
If that's the case, it is a117 volt AC motor, and should be cleaned and oiled, with 20 wt.motor oil--no "grease" !
If it's not turning, has been properly re-aligned, and is getting 117vac, you will need to re-build, or replace it. Are you sure it is not turning ?
