Seeburg DS 100 Metal Parts

by ds100h » Mon May 27, 2013 9:54 pm

I am in the process of restoring the cosmetics of the metal parts on the Seeburg DS model. I thought the kick plate was stainless steel, but, a magnet will attach to it and where I have been sanding away oxide it is turing a copper color? Likewise with the square center piece where the crown fits?

So, if anyone knows what metals these are actually made of, I will list the parts I need to know about, chrome, polished satinless steel, aluminum, etc?

Two pieces that fit on both sides of the grill and are (Glued?) to the wood side?

The center plate that holds the crown?

Bottom center kick plate?

Trim pieces on each side?

I know the trim that holds the glass is chrome, the square that contains the center plate and crown is chrome, the caps that cover the kick plate are chrome and the pieces on the ear speakers are chome.

Appreciate any insght you may be able to provide.

Best
Darrell

Darrell,
"Stuff" like that tended to vary from day to day--depending on what they needed, when, and of course price. Also, the possibility exists that what-ever you find on a phono today, has already been replaced, with a repro part. Ron Rich

Hi Ron

Maybe I will just take all the pieces to the person that will replate the chrome and he may be able to shed more light on the pieces in question.

Thanks for yout insight.

Ron

The re-plater has re-chromed a WOM for me and it looks great. So I have high hopes he does know what he is doing.

If you know, I noticed there is some black substance (now brittle and breaks easily) that is placed in the glass channel, I assume to hold the glass in place, do you know what this substance is?

Darrell,
Yes--it was a product called "Black Magic Tough Glue" made by "Miracle Adhesives Corp." In New York (I think--anyway zip code is 11710, for sure). Ron Rich

Ron

Thank you for info. One piece of the material was like a row of connected sssss(on their side end to end) and must have been a spacer of some sort. There was a black substance on some portions of the glass which I guess is the material you refer to.
