Interesting Seeburg Mod.

I came across this YouTube video: http://youtu.be/rTaQ3HkirZY, and while the idea seemed to solve the problem, I couldn't help thinking about the nut and the sledgehammer.

This isn't a problem I have come across myself, but if in the future I do have this problem, is this really a sensible fix?

Some people enjoy making things more complicated than necessary.

I can see possibly adding an AC relay on the mech in the case where the original switch has failed and you don't have a replacement with enough sections.

Other than that the only place in that circuit where I added a relay was on the scan switch. I use a 120 VAC relay to switch the main AC and tube heaters.

When you are new to a hobby or business you tend to over-think things. Experience teaches where the real priorities should be.

I have been thinking about this ever since reading this post--
IMHO, it's a total waste of time, material. I have always been able to "fix" any reversing switch that needed my attention( and most all I have seen that needed "attention", had been "mis-adjusted" prior to my seeing it). It seems to me, that this mod. would be a fire hazard, as the phono got older, or at least,
running the motor AC, back and forth, might induce "hum/pops" into the adjoining audio lines.
Adjustment of the reversing switch is critical-- one MUST first make sure the internal stops are not spread out, prior to adjusting, exactly, as shown in the Service Manual.
As for an AC relay to operate the "scan control"--why ?? IF the .01/14k cap is good, and the scan control contacts are correctly adjusted, they give no trouble ! Ron Rich

Thanks guys, you have confirmed what I thought, but I didn't want to criticize this guys efforts without being sure I hadn't missed something. Now I feel sorry for the jukebox owner, who finished up with a b***ardized jukebox and probably a big bill.

Ron all of the old Seeburgs I have out tie into other parts of sound systems and on the floor models I also switch the tube fils on the amp.

In some cases the tie-in only involves switching speakers and/or turning on booster amps (three in one loc'). In another place a delay relay triggers a logic circuit to fadeout an ancient (mid-90's) audio server as well (overpriced tourist trap).

So I long ago decided to take the total load off the rather flimsy contacts on the scan assembly. In the V-VLs I just added a set of contacts to the AC RY.

Hi Rob,
OK--it makes sense to add it if you also use it to control "other stuff", however, I dis-agree about the scan (motor) contacts. IMHO, they are more than adequate to do that job.
