How to remove AMI nameplates from AMI model K?

by jukebore » Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:39 pm

I'm stripping down an AMI model K - but how best to remove the large oblong shaped 'AMI' nameplate castings on either side? One screw is visible and easily removed, this then allows the nameplate casting to pivot on a second screw, but this one appears to be completely buried behind a substantial screwed and glued secondary panel which would probably be badly splintered after removal, and yet I assume this has to be removed to gain access to the second screw. Would another alternative be to drill a large diameter hole through the woodwork to gain access? If you've restored an AMI K, how did you solve this problem? (Thanks for any responses)

Don't bother replying folks - I see how it's done! The AMI logo is on a separate plate which pushes out revealing two remaining screws holding the chrome frame. The plates were 'gunged up' in the frames and gave the outward appearance of one complete unit.
