i just recently aquiered an astrosonic magnavox stereo console in great condition, but im having a problem dating it. model#1RP637 walnut finish serial#p6874212. this thing is in perfect working order w/all paper work and even the record cleaner. im guessing that its mid to late 70's seeing as its solid state but really i just dont know. i have read other forums on these and have not seen any #'s like mine. any info on this unit would be great...

Sounds more like a mid to late 60's model. I have a couple from 1965 and they are solid state. If you read the old posts from this board you will find A LOT of information about these awesome maggies.

Steve you may have posted a request on another site. If so he gave you good advice. You must in most all cases remove the back and take down the numbers stamped on the chassis or where ever.

Woohoo!!!

Steve,

I have a Magnavox brochure from which I believe is 1966. It was inside a Magnavox stereo I got at the thrift store. Your RP637 model is an Astro-Sonic 20: called "The Romana" in classic Italian Provincial styling, radio/amp chasis with 20 watts undistorted music power, 12" High efficiency woofers, 1,000 cycle exponential treble horns. It was available in distressed walnut and pecan, priced at $349.50

I fogot to mention.....

If you remove the back and look for some little date stickers on the radio chasis, that may narrow it down even more. Look for something like "9/65" = September, 1965. --BB

I have had a Magnavox Astro-Sonic console for a little while now, though actually just now being able to enjoy it. From what I can gather, it was made in the mid- to late-60s, but ? It is Model 1P3724, Cherry finish, Serial #4311569, Chassis R22010 (I believe that is right, as I was trying to read it upside down and backwards in a mirror); I'm not sure of the run number, couldn't find the label. It does have the RCA-style tape jacks in the back (input and output). The changer model is W801/01/00, though I know those could easily have been replaced with something else.

Also, the left channel seems a tad weaker than the right. Could probably be a combination of front and side speakers, and room conditions/accoustics...? I was going to try and replace the cartridge.

Any info/help would be appreciated!
