Rock Ola CD8 magazine not stopping at "Home" position. Mech Error 01

by mark2474 » Mon Dec 14, 2015 4:55 pm

Yesterday I bought a Rock Ola CD8 with the red components, built in 1996. After moving it, there were a couple of CDs in the magazine that jumped out of place and jammed the mech when it powered up. I cleared the CDs out and the magazine is now spinning freely, but it is not stopping at the HOME position and keeps spinning for a couple of minutes and will eventually stop at a random position and give Mech Error 01. I can't do the Index Test or Mech Test because the magazine just spins first when I do them and gives me the Mech Error 01 again. It was working fine when I picked it up. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Changers should never be relocated while still loaded.
Most likely the mechanism has now "out of sync" or timing.
Possible damage to any plastic gearing/racks.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Hello: been there done that. on my CD-8. look for the photosensor. It may have gotten caught by a cd and either popped off(easy solution), or broken off(bad) I do not remember which side of the carriage it is on . it is either in the 10 or 2:00 position. you will see the location disc, black with holes in it. I found mine popped off by following the wires just hanging down, and it is black plastic that just snaps back on . that is what tells the processor where it is at, as it counts the light pulses. Thank you Mark. I just pulled the much out and took a look, and that is exactly what I found. The wires of the Opto Sensor got smacked by one of the out of place CDs and were pulled loose, but not all the way out. I reseated them and put the mech back in and all is good again.
Thanks for your help!
