Rowe R-85 issue(s)

I'm working on a Rowe R-85 for a friend. I have ordered a manual for this machine as there isn't one. I'm working off of a R-91 manual at the moment for reference. The juke has power and will allow selections and coin-up but the carriage rotates continually. The Optical light does not light when the carriage passes 99. The carriage light and detent are constant on. Where is the starting point for this? I'm kinda new to jukes, have extensive repair cred in pins and vids but jukes are out of my comfort zone. HELP!

Wait till you get the correct manual--two, almost totally different, systems--
If you wish to proceed, before the book arrives--check ALL pins in ALL plugs !
Look for bad solder joints at ALL PC board connectors--VERY common !
Remove the battery--replacement is optional, unless you want memory--

I'll go through and reflow all the pins. I hope the r82 manual shows in the next few days. Until it arrives I'll just check all the obvious stuff. Thanks, I'll check back when the manual arrives.

As Ron says they are two completely systems that also work on different voltages. The boards have CMOS chips in them and use of antistatic static working is required.

The boards need to be tested as a set of boards, well at least the memory unit, selector logic and mechanism control unit.

If you can not get anyone in the USA to repair them by all means send me a PM.

After working on these machines, ordering manuals, I messed up the original post the juke is an R-85. I have the manual now have looked it over and here is where I'm at. The magazine continues to spin. the optical light does not light when it passes the index point. Here is what I've done so far: Reflowed and touched up the pins on the CCC and mech control board (MCB), checked continuity between CCC and MCB plugs, removed battery from CCC. When the juke is first powered up it chooses a record moves the arm onto the turntable and turntable spins, the arm goes all the way down to turntable and seems to not stop and the motor bottoms out as if an indexing switch isn't working. If I press cancel it will reset and wait for another record to be selected. Once I select a record it starts to turn the record magazine and won't stop unless it's put into service mode then the mag can be turned with the cancel button. The power supply has all three voltages lit and the 8+ is lit on the CCC. Where do I start? How can I tell if the optical switch is good?

Dis-mount it--when outside, it should light both LED's--providing that the MCB circuit is good.

Listen to Ron, and like I tell everyone and anyone to re-solder all the pins on all the boards. (Ron will also have you inspect the plug side and reform any miss-shaped connector pins) If you un-mount the optical switch the 'HOME' and 'INDEX' LED's should light. Prove it by blocking the path with something. Now you have the O switch out, you need to adjust it per the book, when you re-install it. You should also inspect the sprag assembly and adjust it per the book.

Ron & John are correct in all they say.

With regards to testing for continuity all that tests is there is no breaks in the cables, it does not confirm that the connection is good.
You need to remove each connection in turn from the plug to clean and open up the connection so it puts extra pressure onto the connection once inserted back into the plastic plug. You may find some of the connections so tarnished that they may need replacement.

I pulled each pin out of the plugs in the CBM and the plug from the CCC to the CBM. I cleaned and open up each pin and replaced it in the plug. The opto switch was bad so I found a working one in the parts juke that functioned well after adjustment. Now the tone arm cam is out of adjustment so that is next. I've read the manual on the adjustment and will tackle it tomorrow after work. Any hints on that adjustment would be great. The CCC is registering credits and allowing programming inputs. I may be able to save this ROWE after all.
