Hi Bob,
Welcome !
As I am NOT a "Diplomat", I will attempt to word this as "nicely" as I can--
Your "someone" who is giving you advice is crazy !
Yes--Seeburgs as well as all coin operated phono's can suffer major damage, when not "bolted for shipment" ! However, the SMC models are probably the MOST "forgiving" in that respect.
I have been "involved" with this model since pre-production. I used to repair the electronics used in them, till about three years ago, when so many of the parts needed became no longer available. At that point, I, along with two other people, collaborated to come up with a total replacement MCU , using modern parts. We simplified the three boards (aprox 40 IC's--depending on MCU version) in the MCU down to one board (two IC's), keeping all of the "features" of the originals, and adding some new ones. If you, or anyone else is interested in a new MCU, please PM me--
I still repair all other parts for that, and many other phono's.
I would guess that the problems you describe would be most likely in the MCU and / or PCC interface board. Ron Rich
