TI1 search engine unit doesn't stop

by ilmarzio » Tue Mar 17, 2009 7:20 pm

hi everybody, i'm a new member from Italy,
My TI1 search engine unit doesn't stop and runs continuously, manual says Relay R broken, but at my eyes seem to be good.
Is there anybody who knows how to test it?

Hi Marzio:

I decided to give your post it's own topic heading, and start a new thread with it, so more would see it. Good luck. -- JDS

Clean the contacts in it. You could apply voltage to it, to see if it works. I would clean all the contacts in the box.

thanks Jukejohn and Alan,
all relay contacts seems to be in pretty good condition, however to test this relay i need a power supply that provides 30V (AC or DC?) and is not so easy to found...here around
Relay R is not comparable to S1 and S2 that seems to be more primitive, is not welded on a board but has his own socket.
From the Service Manual Part List is the only fitted on TI 1...
Anyone would say that the cause for my problem is this unrepairable relay R fault?
Ciao and thanks everybody
Marzio

Marzio,
I don't know, I am just guessing here, from what you wrote--The "more primitive" relay, if it un-plugs, is actually a newer type !
It should be (what's called here) an "ice cube" type. It should have a plastic cover over the whole unit (sounds as if you are missing the cover). The cover would be marked as to the type AC/DC and the nominal voltage. If you can find the cover (in the bottom of the phonograph ?) look at it, or look in the parts book. If original, it will have a "Rowe/AMI" number on it. If it's part # "F-12751", it is a 24VDC relay. Also, the service manual schematic should show voltage to the relay. This relay, if it has been "messed with", should be replaced with a new (24-30vdc) one. Ron Rich

Hi, thanks everybody for your hints...
finally i've discovered that the Phantomatic relay R is a standard type 24VDC normally open, now everything works fine

Ciao :D
