Magnavox turntable speed.

I have a magnavox micromatic turntable made by collaro it is from the early 60's. Back in the mid sixties the motor was replaced and never reinstalled. I got this about 5 years ago and it was working fine. but now when i first turn it on the speed is slow but as it play's for a while it start to play correctly. I have oiled the motor and idler but can't find my problem. any suggestions ??

Perhaps you should have lube it before you used it. If the bearings in the motor ran dry they may have been damaged. Oiling them usually does little to help in that case. I have a mid 50s Collero that had the same problem and a dozen attempts to repair, (cleaning, different types of oil, different alignments, and even a litttle *#!$#!&!!) did not fix it. That said, if the motor was never used from new you might want to try disassembly. cleaning and relubing it. Be careful about the shaft alignment. I don't have the procedure in front of me. Thanks for the tip. I will look into pulling it out this weekend. The motor dose seem very loose so i did not think that was the problem but maybe a cleaning will help.

Hey Charlie, Look in the archives under phonographs then search for (Thom). Scroll down to around April 2005 and you will see some Q&A on your problem. My motor never did fix so I am tasked with replacing it or wait a few minutes until it comes up to speed. I hope this helps.

The loose motor parts could cause the trouble.

Or it could be worthless lubrication gumming up the bearings.

I have never seen a damaged Collaro motor shaft. The motor stalls before it can damage the shaft. (I have seen some damaged RCA motors.)

The last couple of time i have used it it's worked fine. Would playing it more offten help ? also Where can i get a replacement cartridge ? it has the flip one. I have this installed in a 1946 philco and i have 78's they sound better with a 78 needle.
