Wurlitzer 2910 Transfer Switch

by 34joe » Fri May 02, 2014 1:42 am

Hi: New Member to the forum. I hope someone can help with this issue. I have a Wurlitzer 2910 jukebox. The transfer switch went bad (over-center spring came out, bakelite broke and one contact broke off). Before that, the jukebox worked fine. I bought a replacement switch that is a double-contact, double-throw switch with bracket and six spade terminals in the back. I put it in as directed and I can't seem to adjust the activation screw correctly -- the unit, when I have the screw backed out to press a button and play a record will play fine, after it places it back in the holder, it picks up and plays it again. It continues to do this over and over. If I turn the screw in a little bit (about 1/2 turn), then the record will stop after it is done playing...but when you press the selection button it won't do anything unless I back the screw back out again. The select solenoid is engaged but nothing else happens. I don't know if this is a wiring discrepancy or if it is another issue. I have a manual and the open and close contacts in the wiring schematics don't match the wiring of the new switch. The man who sold me the switch said to wire it as if you had turned the old switch up 90 degrees and that is how I wired it.

I appreciate any help you can give.
Joe

Hi Joe,
It's been at least 30years since I swapped one of those--but going from my great, but not too long memory, the side of the new switch is marked, and I just connected it, as per the markings, and the schematic. I do recall having trouble with the "screw actuator", not quite lining up with the plastic of the switch--so I turned the whole screw "over", using the head of the screw to actuate the switch. Also--check that the arm that moves the screw is not frozen in place--- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron for that information. The arm moves back and forth pretty good. I will try wiring as the schematic states. I updated my profile as requested.
