Rowe Title Rack Keyboard Interface Assy

by Las Vegas Jukebox » Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:53 pm

The page turning has stopped working on my Rowe CD-RN. I have tested the motor and the keyboard, both are good. I think the fault is with the "Title Rack Keyboard Interface Assy. 40856101". Although the 28v and 9v LEDs are lit on this unit, there is no power going to the page motor, nor to the bulbs which light the pages and keyboard. The rest of the keyboard works okay (selections etc.).

My problem is that I don't have the schematic for the Title Rack Keyboard Interface Assy. so that I can troubleshoot it, it is not part of the manual. Does anyone have the schematic for this board. The PCB is marked: 40853001 Title Rack Interface?
Regards
Keith

If I recall, this board is plagued by cold solder joints at the connectors.

Thanks Ken

I went and re-flowed all the connector pads, but no change. I think resistor 15 and 16 look suspect, but without the schematic I can't say for sure.

Hello Keith,

The two resistors are both 15 ohm metal film 1/2 watt.
Personally I would suspect the U1 or U2 chips
U1 CS3717A
U2 UDN-2953B

Thanks Alan

Am I right in thinking that a fault on this board would stop the pages turning and the two rows for small bulbs (in the door) not to light?

I know the page motor works because I connect a 24v supply directly to it and the pages turned okay.

Keith

Keith,
The lamps are independent of the page system--usually they are wired in series--two per each series,
and they are #1819 lamps. Ron Rich

Thanks Alan

I have seen that, but it's untested "as-is". I don't want to end-up with another faulty unit.

Finally got back to this after being busy with other projects.

I've got all the lights working and I acquired a new Title Rack Keyboard Assy. However, the pages still won't turn. Without a schematic it is difficult to know what is supposed to happen.

Connector P6 on the Title Rack Keyboard Assy. contains the four wires which go to the page motor - orange to pin 3, yellow to pin 5, blue to pin 6 and white to pin 7.

Here's the bit that doesn't make sense to me, I have a reading of -28v when I connect my meter to pin 5 (yellow wire) and pin 6 (blue wire) or pin 7 (white wire). I would have expected this to be +28v?

FYI - Blue and White wires connect directly to the page motor, orange and yellow wires connect to a switch which closes when the pages turn.

Any ideas would be welcome.
Regards
Keith

Keith,
Did you "default" the CCC ? Do you have the "home", or commercial, version of the CD-RN ?

Hi Ron

I have the commercial version - and NO I didn't default the CCC, but I will. I'm assuming it's one of the menu options? I'll need to get back in the shop and read the manual.

That's weird!

I turned off the service switch, held 0 and 1 keys, turned service switch on (as per manual), but no defaults loaded - the box just loaded as normal ready to play. I know the keys work because I can select disc 01, track 01.

Keith,
Just saw your post above--had written the post below first--
You "miss-read" the instructions--see below
Ron

The Service Manual for that model was possibly the WORST one Rowe or anyone else ever printed --I know that there are at least 27 versions of it--and the 27th still "ain't all right"--
Default all CD Rowes as follows: Power OFF- service ON-- hold keyboard #'s 0 and 1 down --re-apply power remove your hand from 0-1 when display says "loading defaults" --display should then say "errors exist" --read errors, should show 14-01, clear errors, (service OFF),and try your title strip motor--Hopefully that will "do it"--

Thanks Ron

It was the "Service ON" that threw me. I thought it meant move the power switch on the service switch to on, but it meant move the service switch to the "Service" position - very confusing for a numskull like me.

Anyway, it's working now - thanks.

Just curious, why did the CCC need to be reset to make the page motor work?
Regards
Keith
