Seeburg pin bank trouble shooting

I am new to this forum. I am having some issues with my Seeburg M100C mechanism skipping past selections despite them registering properly in the pin bank through the selection receiver. Push buttons work fine... It will just make a clicking noise as it scans by it, cycle around once more and then stop once it gets back to the selection pin. D4 I had trouble with for a while and now K10 is the one giving me trouble.

The other issue that I have is that in the D3 slot in the record magazine has the flip side (D4) getting scratched…

Any feedback would be appreciated

On the pins, my first guess is that they are installed backwards--or, 2. That segment is poorly aligned. or,3. Those pins have "crud" on them ?
On the scuffed record problem--is the record touching the record rack when running-????----if so, and it is the only one, either the rack is bent, or the record is warped--Ron Rich

Not Ron, but when you reply look at the bottom where it has an option "Attachments". If you choose "attachments" you will be able to upload photo documents (hint-if the file is to large it will not upload and you will need to reduce the file size).

If I take the upper wooden panel off the back of the jukebox and select the K10 pin with my screw driver the mech will start to scan. once it reaches the pin while scanning the odd side it will actually hit the k10 pin in a little bit. Once the mech relays and starts scanning the evens it will miss the K10 pin because it was brushed against while it was finishing up the odd numbered side, with the pin in the halfway position but still engaged enough to make the mech scan it will cycle once more and then cancel the selection when the k10 pin is hit from the half way point all the way to the dormant position. Now… If i sneak a small flat head screw driver in between the two K pins holding the K10 Pin in the play position and let the mech scan, it will scan by it make a noise as it is completing the odd number scan then relay to the even numbers and make the selection (but only if I keep my screw driver against the pin through the whole sequence). Under neath on that contact block there are spring loaded cone shaped metal pieces and something tells me that one is hitting the k 10 pin incorrectly.

Is the contact block out of alignment ?

It sounds to me like either the pin has been installed "backwards", all of the segments are miss-aligned ( very hard to do !), or something is wrong with the "dresser" in the frog. It's rather simple to determine--watch the white "sensor's" alignment to a selected pin. Ron Rich

Hey Ron What do you mean by installing it "backwards"? It looks like the pins are all interchangeable. What does the white sensor look like?

Yes, the pins are interchangeable, however they all also have two "sides"--finished side, must be installed next to the magnet .
The white sensor is just that, --Part # 304411, "selection contact assembly" --a white nylon item, with metal inserted, on the contact block (aka "frog"), that "senses" ( or "see's") a selected pin, and supplies the trip coil ground path, when it senses a selected pin. Ron Rich

Last time I was inside the pin bank was when I was 8 years old with my father at the helm. Vividly remember it to this day. The frog which I gather is the two white plastic headed metal pieces on the contact block. They both look fine. No signs of wear. The pin that is giving me trouble will not go directly over the frog, it brushed to the side of it when it should go directly over. I think you're on to something with the magnets.

Hi Don,
If just one pin is being "knocked aside", by the dresser, and the sensor is not contacting it, it is possible it is just "bent"--If installed correctly, you can "re-form it", without the need to remove it, by CAREFULLY/gently, bending it-- Ron Rich

Well, what can I say ?? If just one pin, it HASTABE, either bent, or backwards, or something is preventing it from fully extending ?? Since no one but you can see it, you will need to figure it out--- Ron Rich

I'll check but from what you've told me about the shiny and dull side my hunch is that it is backwards

Not "shinny-dull"-- finished ( rounded-smooth edges) or flat.
