Hi All,
While it's true that the "late style" (red, belt driven) 45 rpm motors have no "oil wick", it just goes against my way of thinking that a steel shaft can run in a "brass bearing" very long with out oil. I have in fact, needed to replace several of those motors due to that bearing being "egg shaped". Therefore, I oil every one of them--just "squirt" them under the drive hub with 20 wt ND oil.
The transfer motors used in at least, the later style 45 rpm units, and all the CD units do have two large oil felts ! Rowe had "oil problems" with the early CD100's and developed an "oil shield" to add to the motors that prevented them from "splashing oil" onto the CD's. Rowe claimed that the motor manufg. was "over oiling" them--but they added the shield to all production units, and came out with an add on kit, for the older ones, anyway---(at "NO Charge" !!)
The sprag motor has at least one oil felt--maybe two--I can't recall, nor can I find my spare motor---I think that there were two suppliers (or "versions") for these, and maybe only one of them had the two felts? Ron Rich
