Selection problems with my Seeburg SL100 (Carnival)

by Tab914 » Sat Mar 12, 2011 2:22 am

Hello,
I recently purchased a Seeburg SL100 jukebox. It plays records and seems to have everything in working order but I do have the scans twice and no selection problem happening. When i trigger the lever manually it picks up the 45 and plays all the way though, returns it and then same old problem when another selection is made. I might be doing the battery test wrong but when I try it nothing happens so I'm guessing I have a write in problem because I have no voltage at the "write in" test points on the control centre. The jukebox has the SCC9 type control center. I found that the 6 1/4 amp GMQ fuse was broken and replaced it but I'm still having no voltage at the write in load or write in source test points.
What kind of test should I do next to point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Dominic.

Dominic,
If you are using a good D Cell, and the phono won't pick, This indicates Read-out, not Write-in problems. The way to use the battery is to remove the RCA plug from the Tormat Socket, ground the +, and put the tip of the RCA plug on the - of the cell at the same time. Then re-insert the RCA plug into the socket.
On a SCC-8 or 9, you will not read any voltage readings on the write-in screw test points, unless, you are "triggering" the WI circuit.
The 6.25 fuse has nothing to do with either circuits--other than it is the main fuse for the whole phonograph.

Thank you Ron.

That is what I did with the battery but will retry (again) just to be sure. I thought it was a write in problem because I was getting no voltage at the test points like the troubleshooting guide I got off the internet said I should. I will refer to that troubleshooting guide to see where to go next for the read out problem and maybe post from there. I purchased your books online and am waiting to get them in. In the meantime I only have the jukebox service manual to go on.
Is there a way to jump the trip relay to at least get it to trip to check that, at least that part of the functioning works?
Also for read out is there an issue that is usually more common than others? Is it a good idea to just go ahead and change thrisistor and capacitors right of the bat?

Thanks again.
Cheers,
Dominic.
