Because I can't see it, I would say it may be best to leave it alone, as it MAY be, you are looking at a rubber part on that cartridge---Ron Rich

Ok Ron. I appreciate it. It works fine. I'm sure it's not going to hurt anything. It's probably just dust that's clung to it from humidity in the air. It very possibly could be the original one. It does sound good though. I've been playing the heck out of it.

That looks like a close cousin to my 1964 tube unit. It's an old, bad cellphone pic, but has identical front panels and similar turntable. --BB
