Weird Victor Credenza find

by frenchmarky » Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:19 am

Just picked up a Victrola Credenza today, but there's a few weird things about this one. First, there's about a 6-inch hole cut into the bottom portion of the horn wood (behind the grille), with some mounting holes, like something had been added there once. A speaker perhaps? Then someone had screwed an old iron pipe fitting into the side of the horn elbow, with two exits in the fitting. There's one vent cap in the back missing around that area, maybe someone was piping the acoustic sound out for some reason, I can't figure out what the hell for, or why it has TWO exits! Then there is an additional a/c wire wired into the motor disconnect plug. Maybe it was powering whatever it was they had added in there, or was for an external lamp. Anybody have any ideas on what the intentions were with this weird stuff? I'll have to remove or cap the fitting, and patch that hole.

Also if anybody has an extra grille frame, I need one, I'm missing it, cloth condition not important. If not I guess I can nail a little one together and put some new speaker cloth on it.
