Wurlitzer Carnegie sound issue

by jukinbill » Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:31 pm

I have a Wurlitzer Carnegie CD juke that, until just recently, was playing fine. The mechanics of the machine are working perfectly, but I can't get any sound. When the CD is placed on the player and it ultimately starts the song to play, you only get a slight "thud" sound and then no volume at all. Like I said, the player works fine, just can't get any sound. I have gone through and re-seated plugs and all, but nothing is working to correct the volume problem. I tested all of the fuses and they are fine. I'm wondering if I have a bad plug or something. Any ideas?

Bill,
I have no idea what a WurliTzer Carnegie is--But I assume that one could trouble shoot this problem in it, the same as any other CD jukebox. Find the input wires from the CD player to the Amp, and use another source for audio (while the player is playing a disc).
If no audio then, the amp/speaker system, has problems. If audio is now there, the CD player has problems--

Weird, but I hadn't touched the machine in a few weeks, then decided to turn it back on the other day. The sound was back and we played it for a good 2 hours. Turned it back on the next day, problem had returned (no sound, just a slight thud sound when song starts). The day it decided to work, It was a warmer day than we had had in weeks, so I don't know if this issue is temperature driven or what. The machine is in our family room in the basement and it does tend to get a little cooler down there than the upstairs, but is heated to above 65 degrees. It almost has to be a short of some kind in the connector cables. I'll try re-seating all of the cables (I've done this already) and see if it's a connection issue. God, these machines are tempermental !!

Ron, the Carnegie was Wurlitzer's first CD jukebox from around 1989. There's one for sale right now on eBay for a $600 starting price. I paid $250 for mine.
