GE D423g modification questions.

by hamburglar13 » Thu Sep 26, 2013 1:50 pm

I recently got a hold of GE D423g and was curious about doing some modifications to it. I'm new to this device and community, and hoping to get some help. I'm not sure if some of the ideas I would like to incorporate are possible or not. I would really like to somehow add bluetooth or airplay to the unit. I'm not sure if I could replace the receiver or use an add-on of some sort. I know this may ruin the unit or take away from its nostalgic feel but I really want it to suit my needs. I like the look but as I am just beginning to grow my vinyl collection I would like to still be able to use the stereo for my digital content. Thanks in advance for any help.

That unit has tape input/output jacks. (note the selector switch)
So any external line-level signal source can be pumped into it.

GE made those sets as a wall-mount stereo back in the late 60's - should have a metal hanging bracket on the rear.

Due to its age, it could use some restoration to perform reliably.
Particularly the record changer.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Thanks for the advice and it does have the bracket to hang it. I did read the sections about restoring before using the stereo regularly. My only problem is trying to find a reputable location to get it restored.
